What you're actually buying

Scarlet High is the one shoe in the catalogue that isn't quiet. Deep red canvas over a cream vulcanised sole, cut high enough to sit above the ankle bone.

The red is pigment-dyed rather than surface-printed, so it fades rather than flaking — expect it to move toward brick over a couple of summers, which is the good ending. The cream foxing tape will yellow. Both of those are features of the construction, not defects in it.

The high collar is unpadded and stiff out of the box; it takes a fortnight of wear before it creases where your ankle wants it to. Lace it low if you want the collapse, lace it high if you want the support.
